Apartment in Verona – Galileo Galilei

Architect Lucio Merlini

In the heart of Palazzo Reggiani, a historic residence in the center of Verona, takes shape a residential project that weaves together respect for the past, design sensitivity, and high-end custom joinery. The Galileo Galilei apartment is one of several interior interventions within the same building: a contemporary narrative that unfolds in constant dialogue between historical architecture and modern-day functionality.

The project, signed by Fietta Prestige, is rooted in the original elements of the setting—exposed beams, substantial masonry, irregular volumes—transforming them into strengths. The entire concept stems from a desire to enhance the building’s identity through a coherent design language made of authentic materials, tailor-made craftsmanship, and integrated solutions designed to stand the test of time.

The essence of bespoke interiors in historic residential settings

Every furnishing piece was custom-designed and crafted to respect proportions, variable heights, and the natural light flowing through the rooms.
The living area features a curved kitchen in matte cream lacquer with no visible kickboards, topped by a natural stone surface with an integrated induction hob. The central table is a one-of-a-kind piece in glossy rosewood burl with burnished brass accents: its mirrored surface and star-shaped veining make it an elegant yet understated focal point.

In the living room, a geometric wood floor harmonizes the volumes, while a custom velvet blue sofa and burnished accents in the furnishings create a refined and intimate atmosphere. The cantilever staircase in concrete and glass, both lightweight and structural, symbolizes a visual and conceptual link between memory and modernity.

Night area: uncompromising custom comfort

The master bedroom embodies the idea of relaxed elegance. The custom bed is framed by a pearlescent boiserie that extends across the main walls, invisibly integrating systems, lighting, and controls.
The bedside area is part of the structure itself, with support elements designed in perfect visual continuity. The selected mattresses are of the highest quality, chosen to offer superior comfort and a rest experience aligned with the project’s standards.

The full-height wardrobe, with satin lacquered doors and acid-etched backlit glass inserts, is integrated like an architectural volume, ensuring visual order and formal continuity.

Materials and details: understated beauty

All furnishings were produced in-house at Fietta Prestige’s workshop, with meticulous attention to materials and finishes.
Fine woods, sandblasted glass, burnished metals, technical fabrics, and soft-touch lacquers give rise to a space where contemporary taste meets the charm of authentic materials.

Every invisible detail—hinges, slides, technical preparations—is part of a functional and discreet design, created to ensure durability, beauty, and practicality in everyday use.

Tailored method, structured approach

The project followed Fietta Prestige’s signature methodology: millimetric surveying, prototyping, mockups, executive renderings, lab verification, and on-site installation.
All complex elements, such as the central table and cantilever staircase, were tested prior to installation to ensure alignment between drawings and reality, optimizing timing and minimizing on-site errors.

This apartment represents the truest expression of what it means to design custom interiors in a historic setting: respect for the location’s identity, attention to detail, technical expertise, and aesthetic sensibility.
For architects and designers, it is a concrete example of how advanced joinery can intervene in a tailored manner on prestigious buildings, enhancing their character with balance and precision.
